Saving Lives is a collection of personal experiences from Medics, Corpsmen, Nurses, Doctors, and Dustoff Pilots who served during the war in Vietnam. It is actually and extension of my Voices From Vietnam book that was published last year by Academica Press. These stories are “from their own words,” and are a testament to their extraordinary courage both under fire and in the Evacuation hospital were miracles were performed. For any soldier, sailor, of Marine on the ground, fighting the NVA, it was an incredible morale booster to know that emergency medical help was no more than an hour away thanks to the bravery and expertise of Corpsmen, Nurses, and Doctors, once those Dustoff pilots had delivered the injured delivered into their waiting hands. Young men and women in today’s armed forces ought to know, by reading and looking at the photographs provided in Saving Lives, that war is a terrible experience, but there are those wonderful men and women in the medical world who try their damndest to save lives, and often at the expense of their own.
